Information about our indoor gardens

Smart Garden 9 setup guide

Here you can find information about your Smart Garden 9 and its initial setup.

1. Open your Smart Garden 9 box.

2. Assemble the lamp with one level of extensions – make sure the extension with the groove goes to the same side as the groove on the water tank.

3. Put the domes aside, and take out the cavities, removing the U-shaped lids.

4. Insert the plant pods into the cavities and put the U-shaped lids back on, then click the cavities into the Smart Garden.

5. Put the transparent germination domes on each capsule. The dome should stay on until sprouts are visible, after that you can remove it. Make sure you hang on to the cavities and domes for future use!

6. Fill the water tank with about 4 L/135 oz of water. Make sure the water level indicator doesn’t rise above the surface of the lid to avoid over-watering.

7. Plug in the garden and you are good to go!

When can I remove the dome?

We suggest you keep the dome (transparent cap) on until you see the sprouts almost reaching it – just like shown in the picture below. The dome is there to create greenhouse-like conditions for the seeds to start sprouting faster and more effectively. There is no need to remove the white U-shaped lids.

Voltage of our products

All of our products work on 100-240v. This includes the tabletop units and wall farms as well.

How to set/adjust the light timer?

The timer’s working schedule is 16 hours on and 8 hours off. The cycle starts from the beginning every time you plug in the Smart (Herb) Garden. For example: if you plug it in at 8AM, it will turn itself off at 12AM (after being on for 16 hours) and again on at 8AM. You should always wait for at least 10 seconds after unplugging the lamp to allow it reset and then plug in again to start a new cycle.

How much power does the SHG consume?

We’ve worked with the world’s leading LED technologists to invent a natural-looking light system that gives plants enough light to grow while only requiring 6 watts of energy. This keeps the electricity bill for running the Smart Herb Garden a whole year to around 4-5 dollars

Product maintenance and cleaning

So, you have successfully grown one or more plants and would like to start fresh with a new plant pod.

We recommend cleaning the product before inserting a new pod. Just pour out the water from the unit and rinse the water reservoir carefully with warm (not too hot) water. You may add a little amount of detergent as well. Rinse again thoroughly and dry it gently with a paper towel.

Also, don’t forget to clean the cavities as they are re-usable!

Both the Smart Herb Garden and the Smart Garden 3 are machine washable, but do not use temperature higher than 60°C / 140°F. Please remove the lamp before putting the product into dishwasher.

How not to overwater your garden?

Yes, our Smart Herb Garden is designed to monitor water-levels itself. But there are some exceptions, when you might overlook the set-up process.

If you pour too much water inside, the system does not regulate properly (the big float shouldn’t rise above the surface of the lid).

Also, you could first check the white wicks inside the lid. Sometimes the wick that’s moisturising the refill has moved out of place. Take out the lid and see, if all the straws look the same. If you see a top of a wick pointing out longer than the others, just press it on a table or some other hard surface until they’re all even. When re-seating, make sure the wick clicks into the plastic of the refill cup.

If your refills still seem too wet (which cause moss and mold), just click the pods out of the garden for 1-2 days to let them dry. Please note, that this could happen at the first stage of the growth. The substrates have the same amount of moist inside, but when the plants are smaller, they need less water which can lead to overwatering in the beginning. That problem should resolve, when plants are bigger and need more water.

What to do if I have the wrong power adapter?

We are producing the Smart Herb Gardens only with US and EU type of plugs. For example, if you’re from UK you have received EU type of plug. In order to start using the Smart Herb Garden, you will need to purchase an adaptor to start using it.
